Last year’s U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study is loaded with information on the various driving factors behind homeowners’ decisions to renovate. The study surveyed 1,360 U.S. homeowners about their recent or planned bathroom renovation projects.
Today, Sunset Tile & Bath, one of the leading bathroom and kitchen remodeling contractors in the area, takes a look at one of the most relevant insights from the study—the top reasons why homeowners decided to renovate their bathroom.
A Largely Financial Decision
Giving the bathroom a facelift is largely a financial decision for homeowners who were surveyed in the study. They are willing to spend the money to achieve a beautiful and functional bathroom they’ve always wanted. In fact, the median spend on master bathroom remodels increased from $7,000 in 2017 to $8,000 in 2018 nationally.
The Need to Upgrade an Old Bathroom
Another reason why homeowners look to tackle bathroom or kitchen remodeling involves the space’s outdated appearance. About 32% of homeowners surveyed admitted to taking on a remodel simply because they can’t stand how old the bathroom is. Their decision is mostly based on certain features that annoy them the most, including small showers, insufficient storage and lighting, and lack of counter space.
Deteriorated Bathroom
A worn-out bathroom isn’t a good place to relax in, which is why nearly half of the surveyed homeowners decided to renovate as a way to revitalize its function. If your bathroom is in particularly rough shape than the rest of your home, you might consider giving it a shot and turn it into a cozy refuge you’ve always wanted.
